(Unicameral Update) -- The Unicameral Update reports, "The 103rd Nebraska Legislature convened Jan. 9 for the 90-day first session. Eleven new members were sworn into office and senators were elected to serve as chairpersons of the Legislature's standing committees."  The story notes that York Sen. Greg Adams was elected Speaker of the Legislature.  Also, Omaha Sen. Heath Mello was chosen to lead the Appropriations Committee; Holdrege Sen. Tom Carlson was elected to chair the Natural Resources Committee; Sen. Annette Dubas of Fullerton will lead the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee; Sen. Ken Schilz of Ogallala will lead the Agricultural Committee; Sen. Mike Gloor of Grand Island will chair the Banking, Commerce and Insurance Committee; Sen. Kate Sullivan of Cedar Rapids will chair the Education Committee; and Sen. Galen Hadley of Kearney will chair the Revenue Committee.  Omaha Sen. Steve Lathrop was re-elected chairperson of the Business and Labor Committee. Senators will reconvene Jan. 10 to begin introduction of new bills.<?xml:namespace prefix = o />
