Job Training and Safety

The distribution of electricity to the homes of our consumers can be a dangerous business. Because of this, NREA offers a comprehensive Job Training and Safety Education program (JT&S) for our member-systems employees. It is this training that allows our member-systems' employees to work safely and productively. Operated under a contract with the Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska, the JT&S program has three full-time electric safety professionals working with our member-systems on a continuing basis.

Bob Cooper, of York, is the Job Training and Safety Coordinator for our program. Bob is a Certified Loss Control Professional with over 28 years in the electric utility business. Our Job Training and Safety Instructors are Carlos Flores of Sidney and Greg Nelson of Ponca. They both are highly qualified instructors with extensive electric utility experience. You can reach Bob at 402/362-6558; Carlos at 308/254-6394; and Greg at 402/844-7194.

Correction/Addition to 1.3-12 Wearing Apparel

When the last Safe Work Procedures Manual was printed, the fourth/last paragraph of section 1.2-12, Wearing Apparel was inadvertently left out. It is still a part of the manual and should read as follows:

Employees with long hair shall be required to wear hair nets or other protective covering when working near exposed rotating machinery, or when exposed to fire hazards.

This can be found on page 15 of the manual, just before Section 1.4 Housekeeping.
